Usually the interviewee, it was fun being the ones who got to ask Dave the questions this time! We hope his q&a makes you laugh, as it did us...⠀⠀

Tell us about yourself and what you do:

Dave Kelly at RedBloom Salon

I'm a writer, a host and interviewer. I put on shows. I talk. I check my hair.

How do you define beauty?

Dave Kelly haircut at redbloom salon

Beauty is feeling comfortable in my skin.

Hopefully I've washed, that helps.

What's a unique gift that you want to share with the world?

Dave Kelly haircut

A Flowbee. I don't use it anymore. And also the realization that 99.9% of everyone I've ever met, interviewed or hung out with is doing what they think is best, no matter what their beliefs. That means they deserve our understanding and support.

How do you continue to bloom?

Water. Sunshine. Tequila. Mostly tequila.

RedBloom In Real Life Guest Feature with Mandy Balak

So happy to share our Season 3 guest spotlight on this mega boss babe, Mandy Balak! She is such an inspiring female and we love what she is doing to support other women entrepreneurs and the #yyc community.

Read on for our Q & A with her…..

Mandy Balak

Tell us about yourself and what you do:

“Hi,  👋 I’m @mandybalak and I am the Founder & CEO of The Ace Class, Rise and Date Night YYC , I am also the Executive Director for The Best of Calgary- I am a community builder.  My entrepreneurial career began in 2012 by helping others build better relationships with each other and our city and has now led me to cultivate community all across Canada attracting women with a collective mission to be the best version of themselves.”

How do you define beauty?

“I define beauty as being real, raw and vulnerable. This has been a process for me to discover in my life as I had a different idea of what beauty was growing up. I have always struggled with comparison and that feeling of ‘not enough’ however, the work I have been called to do to support other women to connect deeply with themselves has shown me that real beauty is simply showing up the most real version of you.”

mandy balak the ace class

Whats a unique gift that you want to share with the world?

“I naturally see the best in people and as a leader, support others to lean into their potential. If I could share this with others I believe this would influence others to build community around them that is committed to rising up and chasing possibilities without fear of failure.”

How do you continue to bloom?

“To me, ‘blooming’ means growth and evolution and to be willing to bloom requires an open heart. Growth is a core value personally and professionally for me and I believe in a lifelong commitment to learning and am highly invested in my personal development through courses, reading, conferences, meeting new people and traveling every chance I get. I’m always ready to level up.”

What do you think it means to be feminine in this day and age?

“Up until recently, I wouldn’t describe myself as being feminine. I have had to let my walls down and embrace who I am and that’s supported me finding my true self and that doesn’t mean just wearing pink. Being feminine to me means collaboration, compassion and lifting others up and my work with @theaceclass_ and @jointherise_ brings women together to celebrate mutual success.”

What can we do to help empower women/ or become empowered women?

“Empowered women, empower women. Lead by example, smile, compliment someone when you are into their outfit, listen to understand, and open a door for another woman every chance you can.”

THANK YOU MANDY for sharing your #RedBloomInRealLife with us. You truly are an example of an empowered woman and we applaud you in your commitment to help others rise up and be their best!

‘Tis the Season for Giving Back - Guest feature on Danielle

It’s December! The holidays are here - snow is on the ground, parties, shopping, the seasonal hustle and bustle. Between all the parties and madness, it’s important to take time to reflect on what is truly important. The holidays are a perfect time to pay it forward - by spreading love and kindness all around! At RedBloom, we love giving back at the holidays. Our staff spend their time serving dinner at The Mustard Seed , collecting non-perishable food items donations for The Calgary Food Bank, and adopting local families in need. Not only do we love to give back, our amazing guests love to give back too and we want to share stories on how…

Meet Danielle Ings. Danielle has been a guest at RedBloom for just under a year. We love her and all that she does for the community! Danielle works for a local nonprofit, and is passionate about education and shaping the minds of tomorrow. She gives back not only at the holidays, but as part of her daily work. Read our interview with Danielle below…

What do you do?
I am an Education Specialist at Mindfuel. I work with educators both locally and globally to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. We develop resources to ignite the passion in students learning.

What do you do to give back in the community here in Calgary?
At Mindfuel, we love to give back to the community. We create unique STEM learning resources that spark curiosity in learners and emphasize the lifelong passion for STEM. We share our knowledge and that of partnering subject matter experts about topics that provoke thought, inspiration, and cause action. Through our research and programs, we provide helpful resources for STEM educators and students. We are constantly studying STEM education topics for students, teachers, and society. Our goal is to create engaging STEM learning experiences that cultivate interest in science. We love to create Aha moments that can change a single life forever.

How are you giving back this holiday season?
This holiday season we are giving back by volunteering at one of the local shelters. We will be providing our help through serving meals and organizing gifts for those less fortunate.

How do you bloom?
We are blooming the problem solvers of tomorrow! We inspire students to discover their creative potential in classrooms and beyond. As a result, we are agents of change, inspiring students to explore science at a young age. We equip students with skills and knowledge to be tomorrow’s thought leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

Personally, I bloom by continuing to follow my passions and creating new passions.

Favourite Holiday Activity?
My favourite holiday activity is baking and watching holiday movies!
