Mother, Visionary, Optimist. Why We Walk For Water.

At RedBloom Salons, we divide our year into 8 seasons. This helps us shift our focus with the changes going on in each period of time. It creates a structure for how we plan our year, and allows us to focus on opportunities and special events for each season. You may notice these seasonal changes in our salons, with new beverage menus and by new colours on our social media.

From April 1 - May 15, we celebrate Season 3. Spring is in the air and this season, we’re celebrating the YIN! If you’re not familiar with the principle of yin and yang, it stems from ancient Chinese philosophy. The principle of yin and yang states that all things exist as opposites. Black and white. Old and young. Light and dark. As part of our salon seasons, we devote Season 3 and Season 4 to celebrating the feminine, and celebrating the masculine. Yin and Yang.

At RedBloom, we describe celebrating the yin as the celebration feminine energy and power! How perfect it is then, that this season falls along with another celebration near and dear to our hearts. This season we are also celebrating Earth Month.

If you are familiar with the Aveda network, then you know how special Earth month is to us. Every April, we Walk For Water in support of Wateraid. The goal is to bring clean drinking water to those in the world who do not have access to this basic human right. This is a fundraiser we as a salon support every year. If you visit collegaearthmonth.com you will be taken to the website where all the magic takes place. This year, upon entering the site, the first words you will read are these:

Mother. Visionary. Optimist.

If you watch the video, you will learn about a beautiful, strong woman, Justine. Every day she walks to the closest water source to provide even just a little bit of water for her family. In fact, women in sub-saharan Africa spend an estimated 40 billion hours per year collecting water. This amount of time spent collecting water takes her away from her family and children.

At this time there are 844 million people that do not have access to clean water. 2.3 Billion people do not have access to a clean bathroom. We are working to change that. On April 29, 2019 RedBloom is walking for water! We are walking 6km - the average distance women and children walk everyday in developing cities to collect water.

Help us celebrate the yin by donating to this special cause. There are lots of ways you can help us support the cause:

  • Buy a $25 coupon book with $150+ in savings and offerings and give 1 person clean water for life

  • Get a hair treatment and $12 goes to the cause ($12 and $30 treatments available)

  • Purchase a $10 organic cotton tote bag and all proceeds go to clean water

  • Donate $5 or more and be entered to win a gift basket worth $500

Donations can be made in salon or online HERE

We are working toward creating a beautiful world where all people have access to clean water. Join us in celebrating the yin this season!!!
