Raising Funds for Water First

More than just a hair salon, we maintain a commitment to better ourselves and the world around us. We are community ambassadors, dedicated to giving back locally and globally!

Every April during Earth month we focus our efforts on W A T E R and are so excited to be fundraising for the Canadian NGO, Water First, this year. Water First is a registered non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping First Nations communities solve local water challenges through education, training and meaningful collaboration.

Did you know that in numerous Indigenous communities across Canada, tap water is not safe to drink?

This is unacceptable and we hope to raise awareness and funds to help resolve local water challenges through Water First.

Water First is Canada’s leading charitable organization dedicated to working with Indigenous communities to build capacity locally, collaborating to address both drinking water and environmental concerns. Education and skills training are essential in creating solutions that work for communities.

The funds we raise will go towards their 3 programs:

  • Drinking Water Program - Many First Nations in Canada have identified the need for more young, qualified and local personnel to support solving water issues, independently and for the long term. The Water First Internship directly addresses this by training young Indigenous adults for a career in water science. The internship is welcomed by Indigenous communities that view training and skill development as a key part of the solution to drinking water challenges.

  • Environmental Water Program - Water First partners with Indigenous communities on projects that address current priorities. Our environmental programs engage young adults to learn skills that help their communities to best manage their water resources, such as restoration projects to rehabilitate waterways and baseline water quality and contaminant studies. By combining traditional knowledge with environmental science, these projects encourage local land stewardship.

  • Indigenous Schools Water Program - Water First’s education programs engage Indigenous youth with hands-on water science workshops. We also get youth out on the land, completing environmental restoration projects of local significance and reinforcing the concepts taught in workshops.
